Vehicular Vigor – Things to Get Excited about When Buying a New Car

So, you’re buying a car! Whether it’s your first time or your fifth time, buying a car is an extremely exciting time. It means independence, ticking of an adult life goal, as well as that brand new car smell! Read on to discover what things you should be excited about – and what you should be wary of – next time you purchase a car.

  1. First timers

After your home, a car is one of the best necessary, albeit expensive, big ticket items that you will spend money on. Therefore, it’s worth putting the adequate amount of research into what you’re going to buy. If it’s your first time buying a car, you will have a few other considerations to think about.

For example, what is your budget?

Plus, don’t forget to factor in registration and insurance! As well as this, you need to establish whether you can actually drive the vehicle you are going to purchase on your current license. Do you have a manual or automatic license, and how many passengers can you legally drive? Lastly, your first car should be a safe and easy to drive car, especially as you are just starting out in your car owning journey.

  1. New or used?

No matter what type of car you decide to buy – new, used or perhaps even demo – you need to ensure you enlist a reliable dealer, such as Cars and Co. Let’s dissect these types of car options one by one.

Firstly, one of the most appealing things about buying a brand new car is that you can choose exactly the make, colour and model that you want. There is no compromise. However, you are going to be paying more than with the other options.

Secondly, a used car makes a lot of sense, especially for first time car buyers.

This is because a second hand car will stretch your budget much further, meaning you will usually get a better quality car for the amount of money you spend. If you’re still undecided on whether to purchase a new or used car, perhaps you should consider purchasing a demonstrator. There is the potential to save a lot of money and value in a demo car, which is the car that customers take for test drives.

  1. The buying process

The buying process is certainly exciting, however it does need to be treated with the appropriate care. Firstly, you need to research the car options you’re after, gathering all appropriate knowledge you need. Next, you should create a list of the exact car you want, as well as all the accessories and add-ons that you deem necessary.

From this point, you need to compare this list with your actual budget to see what you can actually afford. Then, you’ll be able to investigate your financing options in order to get a realistic quote and have an idea of your car buying timeline.

  1. Important considerations

Just before you go throwing your hand earned cash down on a vehicle, it’s imperative that you remember a number of important considerations. For example, ensure that you compare all models of the car that you are keen on buying. Usually, they will vary in safety, luxury, reliability and running costs. No matter your preference, safety is the one aspect that you should not compromise on.

Always aim for a 5-star safety rating when buying a car.

Next, you’ll think about whether you want to buy an automatic or a manual car. This will depend on your license as well as personal preference.

Lastly, if you have the budget for it, you can consider some lifestyle features. For instance, do you need space for outdoors items such as sports equipment or camping gear? Perhaps a good sound system is paramount for you? Think about what lifestyle features you may want and, if you can afford them, talk to your car dealer about purchasing a model that incorporates these.

With some adequate planning, buying a car can be a relatively painless and seamless process. If you stick to these 4 tips, not only will you be excited about the right things when buying a car, but you will understand the important things you need to consider, also. Good luck!

A 101 on Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a woman’s greatest fear, but also one of the most common forms of cancer. Every year, there are around 180,000 newly diagnosed cases. While it happens in men as well, this is true in less than 1% of cases. The older a woman gets, the more likely she is to develop it. This is why most women are at least 50 when they develop it, and it is almost unheard of in the under 30. If caught early enough, it is highly treatable, and only around 20% of cases now provide to be fatal. This is due to tremendous improvements in prevention techniques, early diagnostics, and the lumpectomy.

Early screening has proven to be very effective in lowering mortality rates. So much so, in fact, that women are now recommended to have a mammogram every other year once they hit 40, and every year after the age of 50. Breast tumors can develop in any part of the breast, and they have often spread to other parts of the body before they are diagnosed. Usually, it spreads to the lymph nodes, at which point women start to notice symptoms. If metastasis occurs, which means it spreads to other organs, the prognosis is much less good.

Causes of Breast Cancer

It isn’t known what causes breast cancer. However, there are clear risk factors that have been identified, including:

  • Early start of menstruation or late menopause.
  • Falling pregnant for the first time after 30.
  • Having a family history of breast cancer.
  • Exposure to radiation.

There are also risk factors that are believed to be associated with breast cancer, although further research needs to be completed. These include:

  • Excessive alcohol intake.
  • Eating a high fat diet.
  • Oral contraceptive use.
  • Estrogen replacement therapy.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Most of the time, breast cancer appears as a painless lump somewhere in the breast tissue. However, some women never find a lump. Other symptoms include:

  • Discharge from the nipple.
  • An inverted nipple.
  • Orange peel skin on the breast.

Breast Cancer Diagnosis

If a lump is found on physical examination, a mammography should be ordered straight away, and a biopsy should be taken of any lumps that are found. If the biopsy proves that cancer is present, tests have to be completed for staging, including:

  • Liver function test.
  • Bone disease test
  • Chest x-ray.
  • Bone scan.

Complications of Breast Cancer

The complications of breast cancer depend on the levels of metastasis. Commonly, they include:

  • High levels of calcium, leading to bone fractures.
  • Confusions, numbness, weakness, headaches, seizures.
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Swelling of the neck and face.

Breast Cancer Treatment

All women should commit to self treatment. This includes eating a healthy diet and avoiding substances such as alcohol and tobacco. They should also have the mammogram as soon as it is available to them.

If cancer is present, medical treatment will include drug therapy, such as chemotherapy and/or tamoxifen. Sometimes, hormonal therapy will be required. There are also two surgical treatments:

  1. The lumpectomy, whereby the lump and lymph node are removed after radiation therapy.
  2. Mastectomy, whereby the breast, or part of the breast, is removed.

What Is Customer Engagement and How Does it Help?

It is now known that customer engagement is a hugely important element in the success of a business. This is why companies like Webio, who enable businesses to capture and increase customer engagement, are now so popular. Customer engagement is something that is seen across three distinctive elements of business, and it is important to understand that, so that you can appropriately measure how successful you are being. Let’s take a look at the three areas of customer engagement, as well as at some ways to measure this.

Advertising

According to the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) engagement is best described as getting a prospect interested in a new idea by introducing them to the context. In other words, it describes how various viewers, readers, or other customers interact with a newly presented advertisement. There are different schools of thought about this. The old fashioned idea was a stepped approach:

  1. Catch the attention of the customer.
  2. Stimulate the desire interest of the customer.
  3. Drive the customer to make a purchase.

Today, however, things have changed. Now, the focus is on combining the message of the advertisement with symbols, associations, and metaphors.

Within advertising, a customer is considered to be engaged when they interact with the specific advertisement. This means they have purchased the product, decided to purchase the product, or recommended the product to others.

Website Analytics

Customer engagement is also very important in website analytics. This is one of the newest forms of customer reengagement. It describes how customers interact with the website of a brand. The goal of websites is to attract traffic, and to turn traffic into customers (conversion). However, there are different forms of conversions within website analytics, including:

  1. Making an online sale.
  2. Gathering new email addresses for the newsletter.
  3. Encouraging people to sign up for a free trial.

There are numerous metrics used to define engagement. A popular one is to calculate how long someone stays on the website, but also how many pages are viewed on average per visitor, or how many comments an individual makes on social media platforms.

Marketing

Finally, there is customer engagement in marketing. This describes the level of engagement with a specific brand. Very often, marketing customer engagement speaks of things like customer loyalty, and customer satisfaction. This is because the focus is strongly on how attached an individual is on the long term to a certain company. The result of high engagement is usually seen in an increase in customer advocacy and word of mouth advertisement and referrals. A lot of companies focus strongly on changing their customer engagement strategy with a focus on marketing. This is because a lot of research has demonstrated that there is a direct link between marketing customer engagement and elements such as share of wallet, ROI, stock price, and profit levels.

In an idea world, customer engagement is about all three things. Being aware of this makes it more likely that you will also be able to truly increase the number of customers who feel engaged with your brand.

Top Tips For Buying a Used Car

When it comes to buying a new car, deciding on purchasing a used car is a far more cost effective way to get the new auto that you want. There are many benefits of buying a used car over a new one, the initial costs, the fact that used cars hold value far better and you can also get a better car than what you perhaps could afford if you decided on buying new. There is a stigma attached with some used car salesmen so you need to ensure that you are fully prepared with how to go about buying your used car, here are some top tips for you to help you out.

Know What You Want

If you are going to buy a used car from a dealership, it is important that you have a firm idea of what you are after before entering , simply turning up to see what they have leaves you vulnerable to a strong sales pitch for something which you may not have had in mind. Do plenty of research beforehand, check out magazines and classifieds and look online to get an idea of what you want. Consider what you will be using the car for and how often you plan to drive it in order to narrow down your options.

Keep Your Price to Yourself

Sales staff will always want to know what your budget is when you walk into the dealership, this is so that they can do their best to max it out on the price of the car and any add-ons which they might be able to sell you. You wouldn’t reveal your budget when you enter the grocery store so don’t do so here.

Inspect the Vehicle

Unfortunately, there is some truth in the stories that there are some real cowboys out there in the used car industry and in order to protect yourself, you need to ensure that the car is in great condition before you buy. If you, like many of us, don’t really know what you should be looking for under the bonnet, then take a professional. Naturally it helps if you know someone that has knowledge about these things but if not, it might be worth giving a mechanic a few dollars to give you a hand.

Negotiate Hard

When the time comes to talk pricing, you need to be hard and smart with your negotiation skills. Don’t ever accept the price that is on the car, this will be largely inflated, try to aim to take 10-15% off the price of the car. If you don’t get the price that you want then it is time to walk away. Very often, the sales staff will want to make the sale far more than you wish to buy the car so try to remember that. You may be offered some add-ons to sweeten the deal, if this happens then take some time to consider things before making a decision. A good technique is to tell them that you wish to sleep on it, once you leave the car lot you can pretty much guarantee that they’ll be on the phone soon with a better offer.

Top tips for keeping classic cars in mint condition

If you are about to pick up your first classic car, you might be wondering how to keep it in good enough condition so that it can compete for first prize at the Show and Shine contests in your area.

By following a few cardinal rules that collectors like Robert Bassam swear by, you’ll be able to keep your roadster in tip-top condition for the foreseeable future.

1) Detail your car once per year

This is one of the most obvious steps, but it is also one of the most dreaded. Detailing your car is a very labor-intensive procedure, as it involves deep cleaning, vacuuming, washing and waxing the interior and exterior of the vehicle.

Neglect this important task, and your classic car will gradually accumulate dust, dirt, and grime, which are all things that will cause its good looks to fade.

Remember that you only have to do this once per year: put in one solid weekend afternoon of effort, and your car will look amazing for the rest of the year.

2) Keep your garage rodent-free

As much care as you put into the prior step, your effort will be for naught if your garage ends up becoming infested with mice and rats.

If they are allowed to invade its walls, they will eventually find their way inside, and they will end up chewing up the upholstery of your classic car.

While you may be certain that your garage and home does not contain rodents, it is it best to consult with a pest control expert, just to be sure.

3) Take it out / start it up once per month

If you’re like most collectors, you don’t acquire cars just so they can collect dust in your garage. You dream of being able to take them out during the summer and drive them down the main streets of your community. However, there are some times, especially during the cooler months of the year, where your car will sit dormant for extended periods.

Not starting the vehicle for a long time can be stressful on its systems, as moisture and condensation conspire to create leaks that can hasten the aging process.

By taking out your car at least once per month, you will be able to dry up any sources of moisture by heating up the vehicle.

If it is too cold outside, run the vehicle in your garage with the doors and windows open during the off-season.

4) Park them well away from other vehicles

There’s a reason why you rarely see any classic cars on the road after the first snow flies. It’s has nothing to do with with classic cars being out of style once summer is over, and everything to do with what is put on the roads once they begin to freeze.

Road salt is incredibly destructive to classic cars, so unless you have no choice but to move your vehicle, it is best to leave your baby parked in the garage until spring arrives.

Custom Made Cake or Store Bought – What should I do?

It usually starts with you seeing a beautiful cake in a magazine or online and thinking you want a comparable cake for your next special occasion. Many people see pictures of custom designed cakes in magazines and on web sites. They then head to the local bake shop with the picture to get a price quote. When they learn of the cost for that cake, they enter shock. A quick check of other bakers in the area reveals similar pricing for custom cakes. Why are these cakes so expensive, and are they worth it?

There is nothing like knowing something is unique and has been created only for you. But custom requires a lot of resources. When you buy a custom cake, you are asking for the bakery’s highest priced flagship item. You are also asking them to focus considerable resources to you for this cake and, resources that they cannot devote to other things that will make them money.

When you place and order, you literally put a team to work, that include bakers, and cake decorators, who reach the level of artists. There are designs to be drawn up, and then redesigns (many people change their mind about the details cake), for the cake. There are long hours put in to color match things, and select materials (both edible and not), based on the picture the baker is given. There is the added need to work with delicate materials, some of which are only usable once and if handled improperly can cause parts of the cakes to have to be completely redone.

The details on a cake that make it unique are often very time consuming. As an example, a single life size rose made of gum paste can take 2 hours to make. Every petal must be pressed in a silicone mold to vein it perfectly and each layer of petals must be lightened in color so that it looks like real rose petals fading as the bloom out the a perfect full rose. If there are figurines on the cake, each one must be made by hand and have perfect proportions.

What are my other choices?

An alternative is getting a high quality store bought cake. The quality of ingredients and manufacturing techniques has increased sharply over the past decade to the point where some store bought baked goods are on par with a good bakery. Companies like Café Valley supply cakes and other baked goods to supermarkets and other baked goods retailers and the quality of their cakes is exceptional. Larry Polhill, Café Valley executive has been a part of the growth of Café Valley and he has seen quality in the industry significantly improve.

Although these cakes are not custom, you can add custom touches and make the cake your own, and most importantly, the price is only a fraction of what you would pay for a custom cake.

There is no true replacement for having a custom cake made specifically for a special occasion. But if you go this route it will be costly. If you are prepared for the expense, it may be a great option. If not, buying a store bought cake might do the job.

John Bradberry Consulting – Have a Start-Up Idea? Don’t Forget to Patent It!

Startups involve bringing a new service or product to the market in order to solve a current problem or to respond to a present need.  Because of this, it is likely that many people or teams are working to develop a solution to the same problem – in fact, many of the greatest inventions of our time have been developed almost simultaneously because they are spurred by a general perception of a problem.  The reason we know the name of one inventor and not another is often because one of them made it first to the patent office.  As industry experts like John Bradberry Consulting can tell you, there is a great deal of competition to find the next big startup idea.   If you think you might have found it, be sure you consider applying for a patent to protect your rights.

What is a patent?

A common misperception about patents is that they give the holder “ownership” of an idea.  This is not the case – instead, a patent gives an inventor the exclusive right to develop an idea in order to bring it to the market. Even then, this right is not forever.  A patent will expire after a period of time, allowing competitors to develop their own version of the same product.  There are some limitations on what kinds of ideas can be patented.  First, the idea or process needs to be new – this means that it can’t be something that is already available to people.  It also needs to be something that is not obvious to other people.  This is because if an idea is so obvious that someone could simply “stumble across it” then there is not likely to be a significant intellectual process that needs to be protected.  Finally, in order to be patented, an idea needs to be actually possible to develop.  This means that you cannot patent ideas for technologies or processes that aren’t currently possible.

Things to remember

If you are considering applying for a patent for your idea, you need to keep a few things in mind because they might affect your rights.  For example, in the United States, the law is that if you have publically demonstrated or used your product, you have 12 months to apply for the patent (because remember, patentable ideas must not be in the public realm).  You also have only 12 months to apply for a patent if you have sold your product.

Patents are quite expensive to apply for and can be quite complicated.  For this reason, some developers choose to protect their idea by keeping processes, ingredients and technologies “secret” rather than patenting the idea.  While you don’t have an exclusive right to develop the idea without a patent, if it sufficiently complicated you may find that you don’t need to patent it at all.

You do need to make sure, however, that any great idea you have for a startup has not already been patented by a competitor.  Be sure to do your homework on this issue before you invest any time or money developing an idea that someone else has secured the rights to.
