What Goes Into Finding a Fulfilling Career?

Starting a career is a big step in anyone’s life, and getting off on the right foot is crucial for future success. If you’re just starting out or looking to shift gears in your career, there are a few factors to consider that can help you find a fulfilling job. Below, we explore these factors and give you pointers for finding a job that can offer long-term satisfaction and growth.

Understanding the Meaning of a Fulfilling Career

A fulfilling career varies from person to person, as fulfillment comes from different sources for everyone. Some people find fulfillment in helping others, while others enjoy solving complex problems. It’s a deeply personal matter that aligns with one’s interests, values, and personal life goals.

An individual’s sense of fulfillment often ties to the pleasure they derive from the work they do. It could be a profession that lets you interact and connect with people, deliver innovative solutions, or engage in thought-provoking matters.

A fulfilling career can also imply having a sense of accomplishment, pride, and satisfaction in your work. It provides a chance to constantly evolve, learn, and grow in your chosen field. Some people find fulfillment in achieving a fine balance between their work life and personal life.

For example, if you are strong in strategic thinking and enjoy the art of selling, you might find an online masters in marketing fulfilling, as it would cater to your interests and strengths.

Key Factors To Consider When Choosing a Career Path

It’s important to take the time to understand what you want from a career. One good approach is to think about the working conditions you enjoy, the people you like to work with, and the tasks you would find meaningful and engaging.

You should also consider your interests, aptitudes, and the level of education or skills required for a particular career. You might enjoy a career that involves cooking, for instance, if you are passionate about food and enjoy creative expression in culinary arts. You may want to turn this passion into a career. You can search for “culinary school New York City” to find the right school to pursue your passion.

The Role of Passion, Skills, and Values in Career Fulfillment

Passion for your work can lead to higher levels of job satisfaction. It can motivate you to persist in the face of difficulties or challenges in the workplace. Your passion sparks your desire to make a difference, and it’s something worth considering in the pursuit of a fulfilling career.

Apart from passion, having the needed skills and abilities for a job can contribute significantly to career fulfillment. Effective training and development opportunities can also enhance job satisfaction and career fulfillment.

Moreover, it’s important to consider your own values and ethics when choosing a career. Working in an organization that aligns with your personal values can enhance your sense of job satisfaction and lead to a more fulfilling career.

How Continuous Learning Can Contribute to Career Satisfaction

Continuous learning is key to sustaining success and satisfaction in your career. It not only helps you keep up with industry changes and trends, but it also fosters personal growth and development.

By investing in professional development and continual knowledge enhancement, you’ll increase your value in the job market. This growth can lead to exciting new opportunities, greater job security, and increased job satisfaction and fulfillment.

Building a fulfilling career is a constant journey, and those who are open to learning, enrichment, and personal growth are more likely to find job satisfaction than those who remain stagnant in their skills and knowledge.

A fulfilling career comes from a mix of passion, skills, values, understanding the job market trends, and a keen dedication to continuous learning. It’s not just about what a job can offer you but what you can bring to a job.

3 Tips from Shiftsmart to Work Better as a Freelancer

Freelancers and independent contractors work within what is often described as the gig economy, and there is virtually no limit to who can freelance. There are freelance professionals working in every sector from coding and web designing to security and retail these days. Unfortunately, the main problem faced by freelancers is that they have trouble finding gigs on a continuous basis.

This, in turn, makes it difficult for freelancers to enjoy financial stability. On the other hand, those that have learned to work the gig economy to its full extent may disagree. Let’s take a look at some of the tips for working smarter as a part-time and full-time freelancer.

Stay Updated with Shiftsmart Job Alerts

Apps are very helpful for freelancers searching for work opportunities. The Shiftsmart Partner app, for example, has been developed for temp workers to find new jobs relevant to their field of work. Part-timers can moonlight by adding extra shifts to their current work schedule, while full-time freelancers can rely on the app to find a steady stream of temp jobs. Simply open an account in the app to start receiving timely alerts about freelance opportunities that are relevant to you.

Improve Your Resume

The average fast-food worker earns about $9 – $10 per hour in the United States, leaving very little hope for any significant, per-hour pay boost for them in the future. Anyone can add more shifts to supplement their meagre income, but they will still get paid in accordance with their qualifications, experience, and field of work. Even with tips, it can make it hard to earn a living wage.

Therefore, if you can expand your resume to include new skills that are relevant to your present field of work, you should be able to increase both your employability and income potential. Understand that if you really wish to boost your income well beyond the minimum or average wage, you might have to switch careers altogether.

Learn an In-Demand Skill

People can do much better by changing lanes and starting their freelance career on a more profitable route. Next, we have a list of better paid freelance occupations available to people who have an adequate resume to take on the respective roles:

  • Cement Masonry – $15 – $20 per hour.
  • Tool and die maker – $20 – $25 per hour.
  • Audio/video technician – $20 – $25 per hour.
  • Analytics (market research and operations research) – $30 – $50.
  • Mobile application development – $60 – $80+ hour.

If you have any special job skills such as the ones mentioned above, or even just experience in one of the several in-demand sectors, moonlighting can augment your present income quite well. In case you do not have a special set of skills, that is not necessarily the end of the road either. Sure, you will have to take jobs that don’t pay as well, but those low-mid wage jobs actually have a much higher rate of temp openings than the higher-paid ones.

This understanding will help you understand what more you can gain or how high you can rise in your career.

Roger Wolfson, Foolish Notions and Life’s Foibles

The great writer Roger Wolfson gave a speech last year abut how writing is very much in the details and playing on the foibles and nuances of people’s lives. In showcasing the absurdity of some beliefs which we have, Roger have an example from the world of soccer, about the seemingly ‘dangerous’ 2-0 scoreline, pointing of course to the fact that being 2 goals up is a good thing which we try to paint as bad, something which he tries to incorporate into his comedy writing.

Is Roger right in his thoughts about this analogy? Well There have been some who have disputed whether or not this is just a cliche which is put forward by football pundits, or whether in fact the 2-0 scoreline is as dangerous as many think it is. Let’s take a look then at exactly why this is viewed as a dangerous scoreline.

Nearly There

The first thing to mention is that this is not considered a dangerous scoreline after 80 minutes, at that stage it is expected that the winning team will go on to be victorious. Earlier in the game however it can be a tricky scoreline and much of that is down to opposition managers. A manager of a team losing 2-0 will look to motivate and inspire their players by telling them that all they need is a goal to get themselves back in the game. A single goal reduces the deficit down to 1 goal, which gives them belief.

Power of a Goal

Goals do not mean the same thing when they are scored, for example a goal scored to put a team 4 goals up instead of 3, is worth less, mentally speaking, than the goal to move from 2-0 to 2-1. At 2 goals up a team can feel pretty comfortable, and quite far ahead, especially as they are yet to concede a goal. If however they then concede a single goal, it shortens that gap and puts players into panic mode, knowing that if they lose another goal that their 3 points are very quickly going to turn into 1.

Drawing

If a team does come back from two nil down, they are going to be in a much more positive and a much more optimistic frame of mind than the team who had it all, then let it slip. We have to remember that the key behind why this scoreline is dangerous is mentality, and that is why if the losing team brings things back and sets the scoreline at 2-2, there is a very strong chance that they will then go on to win the whole game.

Relaxation

Another dangerous aspect of this scoreline is that players may very well relax somewhat and take their foot off the gas when they are two nil up, which of course is something which could play into the hands of the opposition. An early two goal lead has shown many times that the players slow down a touch and that is what lets the opposition back into the game.

It may look a good scoreline, but in football it is considered one of the most dangerous, perfectly representing the point which Roger was making about the fears that people have about risk, and how they play on details to mitigate it, when in reality everything is alright.

Why Ambition is Responsible For The Success of Roger Wolfson

One of the key things which most successful people have showcased in their lives is ambition, the desire to reach above where they are and to continue to do so until they get to where it is that they wish to be. No matter whether this is a CEO, an artist or an athlete, the desire to reach for the stars is more important than any skillset which someone may possess. A skilled person without ambition will end up nowhere.

This brings us to the brilliant Roger Wolfson, a man who you may not know instantly but a man who has written words which you will definitely have heard, thanks to the wealth of hit TV shows which he has written for. Roger is a brilliant writer and that is why he has managed to forge such a great career for himself, beyond this however he has always been ambitious and it is this which has driven him to find the success which he has.

Early

People’s ambition is sparked at different times but in Roger’s case he had it from a very young age and the moment that he knew that he had something of a gift with regards to writing, he knew that he wanted to forge out a very successful career for himself. Roger studied 2 degrees, one in law and one in politics, and then went on to do a Masters in writing, clearly commitment to his craft from the outset.

Law and Beyond

Roger went straight into the field of law and after a couple of years was asked to be an advisor for some episodes of the smash TV show Law and Order. It didn’t take long for the executives at the network to recognize how knowledgeable Roger was or that he was a great writer, and so he made the switch from law to television. People don’t make these kind of changes on a whim, they do so because they are confident in their own ability and they are ambitious enough to try something different which may be the ticket to taking them further up the ladder. This is what Roger showed with the decision to turn his back on law in favor of the television.

Not Content

Roger spent a couple of years learning the ropes around TV script writing, working on shows like Saving Grace and Fairly Legal. Once he felt that he knew his way around, Wolfson then started to pen his own series and was often speaking with execs about them allowing him to create his own show, which he has now done with the fabulous show about the U.S. Embassy in Rome, which is showing on Crackle. Again, here we see the ambition which the man has, taking on his very own show.

Who knows what is next for Roger, perhaps his own network! This is a greta example of just what ambition can do for you.

Jared Seyl – How to Map Out Your Career

Jared Seyl is a man who I have come to respect greatly and a man who has inspired me a great deal. I first met Jared when I was working as an intern for a Denver-based insurance company which was dedicated to farmers insurance, Jared was actually in his last couple of months with the company before he was heading off to pastures new to work in financial advising. Prior to meeting Jared I never really had a plan for my career and in truth the thought of one felt rather mundane. Jared used to speak to me about how he had achieved all that he wanted to in his career and this really resonated with me, so much so that I began to map out my own career, in order to achieve what I wanted to.

Specific Goals

When considering what it is that you wish to achieve from your career you must be specific, it isn’t enough to simply say ‘I want wealth’ or ‘I want power’ or even ‘ I want happiness’. If you set vague and broad stroke goals for yourself in this way then it will become difficult for you to focus on what it is that you are actually looking to achieve. Drill down into your desires, if you want power then think about what kind of power, what position do you want and with what kind of company? If it is happiness then what does that look like? Kids? Partner? Living conditions? The specifics are the most important part of mapping out your career.

Obstacles

We cannot plan for every obstacle that is in our way but we can certainly spend some time thinking about them and how we may find our way over the obvious obstacles which exist. Let’s say for instance that you want to become a CEO of your firm, you need to think about who is in that position now and why, then start thinking about what you need to change about yourself and your performance in order to put yourself in contention for that position. These are the obstacles to overcome and once you are aware of them, and you highlight how to get past them, that is when you can put yourself on the right track.

Plausibility

Don’t think about the probabilities of you being able to achieve your dreams because if you start thinking that they are improbable then you will be defeated before you start. Whether or not you achieve your dreams in the end is completely irrelevant, this stage of the process is about understanding what those dreams are, and working out what the path looks like to go and get them. If you fail then so be it but don’t fail before you even start, that goes against everything that you are trying to do.

Map those dreams out, work hard and stay focused, you will get there in the end.

Signs You Should Consider Becoming a Lab Tech

If you are still in school and you are having trouble telling which career is the perfect one for you, we made a list of reasons you might want to consider becoming a lab tech. Of course, not all people would like practicing this profession, which is why we have highlighted some of the attributes that aspiring lab techs should possess. Check them out below.

It goes without saying that, with regard to your character, you need to be a bit more meticulous and organized compared to people practicing their profession in other domains. But you also need a good deal of determination and you ought to understand that becoming a lab tech requires a lot of learning and commitment to your cause.

You should love science

If you have nothing in common with science and it was a pain for you to pass any science-related subject in school, becoming a lab tech might not be the best decision for you.

On the other hand, if things like chemistry, biology, and physiology have ever appealed to you, this career path might be perfect for you. Of course, not all lab techs have to do the same things, and that’s because some have different degrees than others. Generally, with an associate degree, you can get a job in both a human and a veterinary medicine lab.

You’re detail-oriented

People make mistakes all the time, and that’s only understandable, especially when it comes to relationships and a variety of other things in their life. However, becoming a medical lab technician requires you to be as accurate as possible.

You can’t mess an analysis just because you weren’t paying attention, so if you’ve always been organized and cared for the tiny little details, you have a good chance of becoming a good lab tech.

On top of that, you need to possess a lot of patience in terms of learning how to use medical equipment. While growing up, you probably never even heard about a vacuum oven before, but using one or an autoclave will only come naturally for you if you decide on this career path.

You have nothing against staying out of the spotlight

Aside from those moments that involve you having to interact with the patients on account of you having to collect samples from them, the number of times you are going to see those people is rather low.

This, in turn, means that you should understand that, even if you aren’t in the spotlight, your role in setting a diagnosis and a correct treatment is paramount. In fact, all of the analyses you are going to process will be important in finding out what disease someone might be suffering from.

You want to join the workforce soon, and you’d prefer a stable career

Once you’ve gotten your degree and have become licensed, you can practice your profession in a variety of fields such as hematology, urinalysis, clinical chemistry, and microbiology. You’ll get an associate degree in as little as two years, so you won’t have to spend a lot of time studying if you want to get a job as soon as possible.

In addition to that, a medical laboratory technician can earn as much as $60,000 per year, so this type of job is one of the best-paid in the industry. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that lab tech employment will grow by 18% by 2024.

Dilemmas experienced when deciding a career

Many people have a different opinion on what factors make a job a good job for them. A job, usually, requires you to attend somewhere at least five times per week for around 8 hours per day, so it takes a big portion of your week up! Here are some of the things that people consider when deciding what career they are going to take and that if you are wanting to start a career, you should also consider:

Money

First and foremost the most important thing for a lot of people is how much money they will be earning. Deciding what college course you will take in order to graduate and move onto a career will be largely decided by how much earning potential the career has. Money varies from role to role but something that is not well known is that some roles pay more or less money in different cities or states depending on the demand for people in that role. It´s a great idea that if, for example, you are looking for a job in California, that you search specifically to find out the pay in different cities, such as looking at the San Diego job market to discover if your role pays more or less than other cities.

Job hours schedule

Many people believe in having set hours between nine to five in the day, while others don´t mind, and in some cases, prefer to work night shifts or late night shifts. Some careers are a mix of both, such as a bar manager who may work alternate shifts with the other bar manager and one week they are the bar manager in the day, and the next week they are the bar manager for the night. Remembering to ask about job hours is key before you accept a role as you don’t want to start and realise that you are doing nights!

Job commitment

Some jobs require more commitment than others, for example, if you are the personal assistant to a state senator then you will need to be available all the time and extremely flexible It may also require you to work more hours in one day than you normally would due to a campaign and you need to be prepared for that. Establishing what kind of commitment is needed is extremely necessary.

Ethical conflict

On some occasions people won´t work for a company due to the fact that they do not agree with the company’s policies, past behavior, what they stand for or what they sell. Doing research before even submitting an application is essential due to the fact that you could end up wasting your time. Some people have an ethical conflict with tobacco production and distribution companies. Someone may not even choose to go into politics and chooses a completely different field due to a hate of being involved in anything like that.

Distance from home to work

Something that many people consider when deciding on a role or job opportunity is the distance that they will have to travel each day to get to work. If you are going to study to be a telecoms engineer, there is a great chance that your job will involve travel, so thinking of what a career entails before deciding to pursue it is important.

There are other dilemmas that you will experience when choosing what career to go into, but the most important thing is to assess everything beforehand, and make an intelligent and well thought decision.

How Did I Miss That Trade?

Are you a Forex trader? Are you “in it to win it?  Are you looking for profits wherever possible? That means you will be examining the results of the trades that you take and learning from both your successes and your failures. But what about “the ones that got away”, the trades that for one reason or another never happened and nearly always would have turned up trumps.

Why do we miss out on trades, especially the ones that will cause us so much heartache subsequently? There are of course loads of different reasons. You could have chosen to “sit this one out” having had a couple of losing trades just previously.  You could have been too preoccupied with another trade or considered that it just didn’t fit into your preconceived trading pattern. You may have had enough for the day having met your daily target or you might not have had enough balance to proceed.

Now these are all good reasons, but the fact remains that a missed opportunity is a missed opportunity which will cost you in the fullness of time.  You might not realise how much money you are actually losing by not taking up those missing trades and all the potential profits that have vanished unless you are honest enough to track everything in a journal.

If you are a mechanical trader, you can well find that your performance will be down and you will not get a full idea of whether the system is working for you.

If you get into the habit of missing trades, especially after a losing streak, you must treat that as a really bad one.  You have to accept losses as an integral part of trading and you shouldn’t have the baggage of previous failure over-influencing your decisions.

Perhaps the most hazardous result of when you miss out on a trade is that your psyche says “hey we made a big error there, let’s make up for it”. This is what is called “looking for revenge” – you go into something that’s a long way short of ideal and trade it aggressively. You lose control of your emotions and at the same time, lose a good deal of money as well.

Missing trades therefore is a bad place to be in. So what can you do to avoid all that?  Firstly you could log all your missing trades which would be an incentive to sticking to your trading plan.  Secondly set your trading style alarm clock – you could fix price alerts or use entry orders; perhaps even design a mechanical system for your platform. We know you can’t be everywhere but you can help yourself!

Are you missing trades through lack of confidence, worried about the dangers that could affect your funds? If you decrease your position size, you will ease up on a great deal of pressure.

Finally if you focus on the process you will accept loss, take care of it but have the courage to carry on trading sensibly and methodically and in the end you will make a lot of money.
