Many in the fitness and the medical community have been speaking recently about the importance that we all look to get ourselves in better shape as soon as possible after lockdown. Indeed just last week I was watching fascinating Instagram live with the brilliant fitness specialist Ayden Hector, who was talking about this exact topic. I wanted then to jump onto this bandwagon so to speak and offer some behavioral tips for how you can get back in shape after lockdown. It is fair to say that many of us have been lazy and have over-indulged during this time, and here is how you can get back on track. 

Walking 

The thought of going for a 10k run or lifting weights may seem terrifying to you right now but the trick to getting things back to where they were is to simply start off by walking. Look to walk for at least one hour every single day for 10 days. This will be enough to get the blood pumping around your body, to get your flexibility and your mobility back to a better place and it will provide you with a solid foundation from which to start getting back in shape, all you have to do is walk. 

Diet In Line

If we are going to be addressing your fitness then we also have to talk diet, this has got to look healthier than it has for the last 6 months. As many in the industry will tell you, there is no way of working out a bad diet. This means that even if you are killing yourself with exercise each day, if you are not eating right, you are going to have some serious issues in bringing the weight down to a place that you are comfortable with. 

Buddy Up 

There is a need for a certain sense of pressure and motivation when you are looking to get back in shape and you can get that from a friend or a family member who is looking to do the same thing as you are. This is why buddying up can be a great idea because you both put pressure on each other to be better and to work harder. 

Setting Manageable Goals

Whilst it is of course beneficial that you are in the best health that you can be as soon as possible, there is no mad rush for this and so you should look to avoid any kind of fad or crash diets which promise rapid results. The key is to alter your lifestyle, eat better, exercise more, there really isn’t too much more to it than that. With this in mind you have to ensure that you are setting reasonable and manageable goals for yourself which are tough, but achievable. 

The key to this is to keep it very simple and to take your time, you will get there as long as you are prepared to work hard.

Each country has its own favorite, or famous cuisine, and there is often temptation by many of us to fall into the trap of thinking that this is their favorite too. Do Italians like pizza? Of course, but they are not eating it day-in and day-out, they have a broad range of delicious foods. The same cane be said about Americans and BBQ, Brits with fish and chips or the Germans with bratwurst. This brings us to the Mexican taco and the question is whether or not they have a similar situation, do people go a bit overboard when they talk about the taco culture in Mexico? 

The answer is absolutely not! 

Streets Adorned 

It only takes a day or two in Mexico to recognize that the streets are absolutely packed with street vendors and the majority of them are selling tacos. This is not just something which you will find in the capital for the tourists, throughout the towns and villages of the country you will find an enormous range of taco stands on the streets, and that is because they form such an important layer in the fabric of life here. During the day, at the popular meal times, you will see people of all ages and backgrounds congregate around their favorite taco stands, devouring this amazing snack. 

Wide Range of Options 

It wasn’t until I went on a taco tour with the incredible Rose Burillo that I had my eyes opened as to just how many types of taco you can find in Mexico. From slow cooked pork to crunchy skirt steak, marinated fish tacos, offal tacos, ox tongue, slow roasted goat and many more, these guys will throw just about everything into a taco and I absolutely love it. This is surely one reason why the taco has remained so popular during the ages, because there are so many choices that you’ll never really get tired of eating one. 

Snack Food 

Whilst you certainly can sit down with an alambre and fill up taco after taco for a meal, generally speaking these little delights are really taken as more of a snack food. This again is why they are so popular because you can grab on on the go, and continue to eat little and often throughout the day. There is no need for a grand event of fine dining here, simply turn up, ask for you taco, dress it well and then enjoy a tasty snack before going about your day. 

Tortilleria 

Further evidence of the obsession with tacos here can be found in the totrillerias, the open-front stores here which make thousands of tortillas per day. Here people buy the small, taco-sized tortilla by the kilo, showing just how much the country consumes. Each of those little tortillas is going to soon be filled up with a delicious filling and enjoyed by the locals. 

When you hear talk of Mexicans and their tacos, it is absolutely accurate.

Switching to an online system has been a godsend for so many small businesses this year and this is something which your business must consider using. The key here is to simply make your business accessible online, you don’t necessarily have to launch an online arm of your business. This could be something as simple as taking orders via WhatsApp or Facebook, anything that makes your business more accessible to the local consumer. 

Let Them Know 

Despite the giants like Amazon doing so well, we have seen a real shift in attention to small business and many consumers are trying hard to support them. As a small business you should be letting people know exactly who you are, as there is often confusion amongst consumers. This doesn’t have to be a big deal, a simple ‘thank you for supporting small business’ could be enough to remind people how grateful you are and to let them know that you are a small business.

It meanders through the verdant Green Mountains as well as through some charmingly typical Vermont villages. The route, which traverses the state from north to south, affords road-trippers with the chance to take part in a wide range of recreational activities, as well as a plethora of excellent accommodation and gastronomic options.

  1. Mount Desert Island Loop Road, Maine

Cutting through Connecticut’s heavily wooden north-western corner, the Housatonic River Valley Scenic Route offers the best of New England in any season. In spring and summer the abundance of verdant foliage makes for a spectacular drive. The same can be said when the leaves start to redden in fall when a quick hike up Cobble Mountain will confer an idyllic autumnal sensation on all who come.

  1. Route 102, Rhode Island

Stretching from North Smithfield past the attractive towns of Burrillville, Glocester and Scituate, this route is the best way to see Rhode Island in our opinion. Embracing the best of small-town America, the route then passes through the forest and on to Foster and before moving on to end in the incredibly picturesque town of Wickford. The route is a healthy 44 miles long, and it is a great choice no matter what time of the year.

The road trips above are some of the best ways to take in the real heart and soul of beautiful New England. If you rent a car, they are simple and easy to follow and offer a cost-effective way of getting a feel for a part of America that has long been lauded for its shape-shifting magnificence as the colors change profoundly with the passing of the seasons.
